Transcript of News Central reports on Survivor events in Manila
Various events revolving around the Manila visit of Ethan, Jenna, and Shi-Ann were featured daily at News Central, a local TV news programme. Here are the transcripts of the reports.
DAY ONE (Oct. 21, 2004): Arrival in Manila
NEWSCASTER: The stars of the hit reality TV series Survivor are in Manila. They’re here as guests of your favorite station Studio 23.
[The three Survivors are shown exiting the interior gate of the airport, with huge smiles on their faces. At one point, Ethan makes a goofy face at the camera. They were greeted by a few people, and were interviewed by Lookah of Wazzup Wazzup.]
Jenna Morasca, Ethan Zohn, and Shi-Ann Huang arrived early at the NAIA this morning. They were invited to the country by Studio 23 to promote the show and also to get the chance to meet some kabarkada hosts and viewers.
They will have a press conference at the abs-cbn compound on Thursday while Studio 23 will throw a party for them at Capones Friday night. You can also catch them at Greenbelt 3 Park Friday, that’s in the afternoon for the Survivor Challenge. The Survivor stars will also participate at a soccer camp at the Ateneo de Manila football field Saturday from 9 AM to 12 noon. Do catch a live interview of the Survivor stars on Breakfast tomorrow morning. They will also have an appearance on Wazzup Wazzup, Digital Tour and of course, here on News Central.
DAY 2 (Oct. 22, 2004) SURVIVOR STARS ENJOY SHOPPING AND HAGGLING IN GREENHILLS
NEWSCASTER: Stars of the hit reality TV series Survivor proved they can outwit, outplay, and outlast even the most crafty vendors at Greenhills. Survivors Ethan Zohn, Jenna Morasca, and Shi-Ann Huang are in Manila for a few days. Marie Lozana has more.
[They first show everyone saying “Awwwwww” and Jenna giving Ethan a half-hug. Shi-Ann, Ethan, and Jenna were seated behind a long table at a press conference.]
MARIE: Survivors Ethan, Jenna, and Shi-Ann took time out from their busy schedule to sit down and talk with members of the press this afternoon. They were all enthusiastic about their first time visit to Manila. Though they only arrived yesterday morning, the trio has been making rounds of the city. And even if two of them are millionaires, they still love the thrill of finding a bargain at the Greenhills Shopping Center.
[[Survivor standing side-by-side and talking to TV reporter. Then they were shown posing for photographs]
ETHAN: We went shopping and tried out all the local food.
JENNA: We went to the market.
JENNA and SHI-ANN: Greenhills.
JENNA: We bargained and haggled.
SHI-ANN: Yeah. And it was fun.
JENNA: We got lots of stuff. We would love to come back.
SHI-ANN: It turns out that Ethan is the best haggler of all of us.
JENNA: That’s ‘cuz he’s cute! He managed to get one to go from 3,000 to 1,000 ‘cuz he’s like batting his eyes… [bats her eyes]
ETHAN: I just shake the hair and they drop the price. [shaking his head so that his curls wiggle and making a hand gesture of something dropping].
MARIE: They say getting the big bucks hasn’t changed them much. Ethan still plays soccer while Jenna continues to model swimwear.
JENNA: It makes paying bills a lot easier.
ETHAN: Yeah for sure. For me, it’s just been great. It let me have a cushion where I can do things I’ve always wanted.
MARIE: The trio said they have no plans of spending another month outplaying, outwitting, and outlasting other castaways. Their experience will last them a lifetime. Reporting for News Central, this is Marie Lozano, abs-cbn News.
DAY 3 (Oct. 23, 2004): SURVIVOR CHALLENGE MANILA
NEWSCASTER: More good news of course here on Studio 23. Your favorite Survivors gathered their wit and skills to slug it out with your favorite kabarkadas for the Survivor Challenge Manila Style.
Mia Cabalfin reports. Though only one team emerged victorious, everyone had a good dose of fun.
MIA: Survivor All-Stars Ethan Zohn, Jenna Morasca, and Shi-Ann Huang, together with your favorite Studio 23 kabarkadas, furiously competed against each other at the Survivor Challenge Manila, held at Greenbelt.
[Shows each team assembled on stage, strategizing, getting ready, and cheering]
The white team led by Ethan, the red team led by Jenna, and the black team led by Shi-Ann, all had their own winning strategies.
JENNA: I just plan on cheating. Any opportunity I get, I’m gonna cheat. [looking kinda serious]
ETHAN: I’m not in Africa, I’m not in Panama. I’m in the Philippines. And whatever happens here, stays here. So no one’s gonna know what’s going on. [voice very energetic and enthusiastic]
SHI-ANN: Black is best. And we’re gonna win! Wooooo! [looking quite intense]
MIA: But only one team could be crowned champion of Survivor Manila.
Survivor challengers had to go wall climbing at the start of the race, where the red team had a difficult time and lagged behind.
[Shows a male red team member, then a female white team member, climbing]
The next stop, –?, where team members sang their hearts out in the videoke challenge.
[Shows Ethan with his team, then the red team, singing and swaying to the music]
From there, teams had to run to –? to feast on a whole bucket of shrimp.
[Shows the black team running toward a table full of shrimp]
Then to Time Zone to get their puzzle pieces.
[Shows a guy running inside a video arcade with a puzzle piece]
Teams made their way back to the stage to assemble the puzzle and give their flag to the host to be proclaimed winner of the challenge.
[All three teams shown on stage]
It seemed that the Jenna strategy worked because the red team came from behind to take the first place spot.
[Jenna shown hugging a female teammate, Ethan high-fiving his team mates, and everyone cheering.]
But at the end of the day, it was all fun and games for the Survivor All Stars, since everyone had a great time surviving Manila.
DAY 4 (Oct. 24, 2004): SURVIVOR MANIA at ATENEO
NEWSCASTER: Once again, Survivor mania continues to grip Manila. The stars from the hit show Survivor stopped by the Ateneo soccer grounds last weekend to score some goals with eager kids and do photoshoots with their equally eager moms and dads.
Monique Lachica gives us another peek into Survivor mania.
[Ethan shown running and kicking the ball with a bunch of 8-10 year old kids]
MONIQUE: It was winning Survivor Africa that made him famous but Ethan zohn was first, and still is, a soccer player. And during the weekend, he shared his techniques and did some drills with the Blue Eagles Soccer Team at the Ateneo football field.
[Jenna shown on the sidelines sitting on the lawn and watching]
Co-Survivor Jenna Moarasca, who initially watched from the sidelines, later on also tried to score a goal.
[Jenna shown kicking the ball using her left foot]
The Ateneo kids, with their coach, John Castaneda, obviously enjoyed kicking ball with the Survivor All Stars despite the heat. A huge crowd had gathered around the field as moms and dads and students watched the game and posed for photos with the Survivor stars.
