‘Survivor’ savors taste of victory

Those “Survivor” instincts die hard. On Friday Amos Magee, player/coach of the Minnesota Thunder, noticed a centipede wiggling across the floor at Aaron Leventhal Personal Training. “I’ll eat it! I’ll eat it!” said Ethan Zohn, winner of CBS-TV’s “Survivor: Africa.” But Zohn was too late; Leventhal quickly applied a running shoe to the insect. In all seriousness, the closest Zohn came to eating bugs was a caterpillar roll at Chino Latino. Zohn was in the metro because his AIDS awareness project teamed up with the Minnesota Thunder for a St. Paul fundraiser.

“I run Grassroot Soccer and I use the money that I won from ‘Survivor: Africa.’ Me and a couple soccer buddies started this charity. It’s an AIDS education, through soccer, in Africa,” he said. “We’ll travel to a particular African country, take the most popular professional soccer players, teach them about HIV and AIDS. They go into the schools and teach the youth about AIDS prevention. Same concept as if Charles Barkley goes into the inner city to teach kids about drugs.” When not engaged in this serious work, Zohn distracts himself by seeing what tabloid and celebrity mags are saying about him. “I was in the Enquirer as a cross-dresser,” he said. Zohn went to Borders in Calhoun Square to read the latest on him and “Survivor: Amazon” champ girlfriend Jenna Morasca. “I’m in Star, In Touch and Us Weekly, and my girlfriend’s in Stuff and Maxim.” Any Morasca sightings made when Zohn was in town are bogus. “Girlfriend is in Costa Rica,” Zohn said.
