New York City Businesses SCORE for Inner-City Youth

–Local Corporations Compete in Soccer Tournament Benefiting New York
SCORES–

NEW YORK, NY, June 7, 2007: Saturday, June 23rd is the second New York SCORES Cup, a 6v6 coed soccer tournament benefiting New York SCORES. Held at Chelsea Piers, over 300 employees from top New York City corporations, businesses, organizations, and law firms will show they have what it takes to compete for the coveted SCORES Cup. This day of friendly competition and team building will raise money for New York SCORES, a non-profit organization providing after-school soccer, creative writing, and service-learning programs to more than 300 public elementary school students
in Harlem and Morningside Heights.

Competing teams will include 2006 returning participants Hewitt Associates, Major League Soccer, Bingham McCutchen, WABC-NY, as well as a team of New York SCORES soccer and writing coaches. Newcomers to 2007 include Mayer, Brown, Russell Reynolds, Royal Bank of Scotland, Latham & Watkins LLP, Mr. Dennehy’s & ESPN Deportes. The Cup is sponsored in part by Starbucks,
Gatorade, Major League Soccer, WABC-NY and Mr. Dennehy’s.

Party/Auction
A public fundraiser will held directly following at popular Greenwich Village bar Mr. Dennehy’s (63 Carmine Street) This post tournament celebration will feature a silent auction with great prizes (all proceeds going to New York SCORES).

Items include but not limited to:

  • A FC Barcelona jersey signed by the entire 2006 CL and Primera winning squad including World Player of the Year, Ronaldinho!
  • A Fender Stratocaster electric guitar autographed by The Counting Crows
  • An Irish jersey signed by the entire 2007 USA touring squad
  • A baseball signed by NY Mets All Star David Wright
  • A private wine tasting for 15 at Harlem Vintage

The SCORES Cups are corporate fundraising soccer tournaments benefiting SCORES affiliates across the country. SCORES Cups run throughout the summer and are hosted by each SCORES affiliate, attracting leading corporations, businesses, law firms, and non-profits to come together for a day of soccer to raise money for SCORES programming.
