Milwaukee scores for Ethan Zohn’s Grassroot Soccer charity

Survivor Africa winner, Ethan Zohn, came to Milwaukee with several of his “castaway” friends to raise funds and awareness for his global AIDS organization, Grassroot Soccer, while enjoying the city and people of Milwaukee. His mission was accomplished as his three days in Milwaukee raised more than $50,000 for his cause.
The weekend started with Zohn taking in a tour of Miller Brewing Company and meeting several employees at a Miller event. From there, he visited the U.S. Cellular Arena to watch the Wave play a Friday night contest. Following the game, Zohn and legendary Wave goalkeeper, Victor Nogueira, fielded shots from fans for Grassroot Soccer. The participants received an autographed ball by both Nogueira and Zohn for taking part.
Saturday night’s charity banquet held at Miller Brewing Company’s Fred’s Pub and catered by Saz’s was a resounding success. Beyond Grassroot Soccer’s success, all involved agreed it was a fun event for the reality stars and fans to bond and enjoy themselves.
The weekend wrapped up on Sunday with the Wave Legends and Reality All-Stars soccer match following the Wave’s game. Fans were treated to a double-header and an autograph session following the games. Emmy Award-winner Jeff Probst, a late addition to the lineup, made an impact on his soccer squad with a goal. But he wasn’t able to deliver a win for his green team as Zohn and the blue team emerged with the victory. Portions of Sunday’s ticket sales went to Grassroot Soccer.
“We’re thrilled with the results of our first Reality All-Stars Soccer Festival,” said Milwaukee Wave Chief Operating Officer, Mike Lafferty. “The community really stepped up for a great cause and Ethan and the rest of the group did a great job to ensure that everyone had a fantastic experience.”

Through the guidance of head coach Keith Tozer, the winningest coach in Wave and North American indoor soccer history, the Wave has won four league titles (1997-98, 1999-00, 2000-01, 2004-05), seven regular season championships, and has made seven championship series appearances.
