Meet Ethan Zohn and Craig Willinger at soccer film festival
The 2nd Annual Kicking & Screening Soccer Film Festival is in half time! Half way through the festival and we are just getting started. We wanted to make sure to invite you to the most powerful night coming up tomorrow.
The theme of the night is The Power Of The Game featuring Eine Andere Liga (Another League), directed by Buket Alakus. It is an incredible story about a young Turkish woman soccer player living in Germany who triumphs breast cancer. Experience her struggle and how she finds strength in the game of soccer tomorrow night.
Ethan Zohn, the winner of Survivor Africa as well as a cancer survivor, will be taking questions before the film. As co-founder of Grassroots Soccer, Ethan is extremely involved in spreading the healing power of soccer. Joining Ethan will be Yael Averbuch, US National team member and Sky Blue FC midfielder.
What we’re realizing is that Kicking & Screening is becoming much bigger than a conduit for cinephiles to share their soccer films – it’s a place where people gather to share their own unique story of the Beautiful Game. Most recently, Kicking & Screening caught up with Craig Willinger, founder of the the Craig Willinger Fund, a non-profit organization setup to send cancer-stricken children and young adults, to watch the Beautiful Game where it is played – both domestically and abroad.
Tomorrow, Craig’s making the trip from Maryland to catch Eine Andere Liga (Another League) and we asked him to share his story. Find his interview below. We hope it kick starts your day and leaves you with as much inspiration as it did with us. And, if you’re at the screening tomorrow night, be sure to swing by and say hello to Craig!
The festival is being held at Tribeca Cinemas (54 Varick Street, NYC). Tomorrow doors will open at 7:30 PM and the film will begin at 8 PM. We really hope to see you there!
