He Ought to be in Pictures

The September 2002 issue of Movieline magazine has a feature called “They Ought to be in Pictures” - full-page pictures of six people who’ve never been in a movie, but have the stuff that “makes for big-screen magic.” Ethan is featured modeling Tommy Hilfiger.

Here’s the text:
“Rather than fighting to stay in the limelight, ‘Survivor: Africa’ million-dollar winner Ethan Zohn has stuck close to his true love–soccer. Over the summer Zohn reported on the World Cup (’For me, it’s a dream come true,’ says the former professional player), and he used his ‘Survivor’ winnings to start a nonprofit company called Grassroot Soccer, which educates professional soccer players in Zimbabwe about HIV/AIDS so they in turn can educate the Zimbabwean youth. As one of the few ‘Survivors’ who didn’t bludgeon the masses with his personality, the affable, earnest Zohn is in a nice position to take on, say, a sunny road-to-the-championships sports movie. Or maybe play a rookie cop sparring with an older, wiser veteran. ‘If something comes up, then yeah, I’ll take a look at it,’ says the self-proclaimed movie freak. ‘But just because I was on a reality show doesn’t mean I can jump in and do OK. People work their whole lives studying acting.’ Isn’t that an adorably modest and reasonable thing to say? It’s proof he’s a natural.”
