Episode 5: …I’ve Been Bamboozled!

A quick run down on episode five (avert your eyes if you haven’t seen it yet):

Right away, you know this is going to be different…we start of with teams getting their tree mail for the reward challenge. Reminding us that reality contestants aren’t the brightest bulbs in the world, Saboga trusts Rupert to design and build the raft they will need for the challenge. Yeah, hard to believe, isn’t it?

Guess who loses the challenge? Yep, Saboga. Their raft was way too wide and, therefore, slow. This means they are to be dissolved and the first place team gets dibs on who they want. Mogo Mogo chooses Ethan, Chapera takes Rupert (how fitting that he end up on the misfit/hot-head tribe), Mogo Mogo takes Jerri (Jerri? say hello to Colby) and, last person on the playing ground to get picked? JennaL goes to Chapera. Well, that was nice.

Lots of footage of the “new tribes getting to know each other.” Rupert loves Chapera’s shelter - take that! Ethan feels like he has to start all over again. He catches a fish…only to have Richard catch a few more.

The immunity challenge seems designed to get nasty - the contestants have to get past each other to get “flags” - first to get all the flags wins. In this challenge, we learn that everyone wants to take on Ethan. No, not in that way. Well, maybe in that way too. Ethan, sadly, forgets the first rule of hand-to-hand: don’t let the other guy go lower. He gets dumped in a nasty way by Rob (who really does have some Ethan issues to work through, doesn’t he?) and takes a second to shake it off.

Chapera wins by letting Rob run most of the time. Smart move by them - because construction workers? Used to walking on elevated beams. (Oh, and during the challenge, a naked Rich rubs himself up against Sue - gee, think that might upset her?)

Next, we get lots of plotting and planning. Mogo Mogo lets on that the reason they picked Ethan is so that they could have control over when he left the game…as in “right away.” But wait, why don’t we get rid of Hatch? Ethan or Hatch? Or maybe Colby? Hmmmm. Bye, Hatch.

Oh, other lesson brought home this week? Bright yellow? Doesn’t hide dirt. In fact, it seems to emphasize it.
