2007 Global Peace Games Soccer Tournament
Survivor Africa winner Ethan Zohn along with SuperSport United coach Pitso Mosimane will be present for the 2007 Global Peace Games Soccer Tournament to be held at Sandown High School, Johannesburg, South Africa on September 1, where over 100 township kids will enjoy playing soccer whilst learning health, physical and social development life skills.
The day is the brainchild of Grassroot Soccer, founded in 2002 and now supported by the likes of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. Zohn, one of the founding members, will be on hand to not only educate the kids about soccer and how sport can truly be a unifying factor but also to create awareness about the ravaging effects of HIV and AIDS on disadvantaged communities. It’s the combination of these two which is at the core of Grassroot Soccer’s message.
Mercedes Benz has come on board as the main sponsor, thus highlighting the stature of such an event and the crucial role that the corporate sector plays in the development of South African youth.
The day will be full of activities for the kids culminating in a prize giving where medals will be awarded. All in all, it will be a day of education through sport and fun with the local communities getting involved in the learning process, emphasizing how to get the message through to the South African youth about the dangers facing everyone in the world today.
